ISPM #15 (international Standards For Phytosanitary Measures)
As of March 2002, total 113 member counties, which are contracting parties to the International Plant Protection Convention
(IPPC), approved the International Standards For Phytosanitary Measures-Guidelines for Regulating Wood Packaging Material
(WPM1) in International Trade. This new phytosanitary regulation applies to all wood packaging material that has not
undergone processing or treatment to remove or kill pests that would otherwise contribute to the migration of live-tree
infesting insects between countries. This include all unprocessed raw wood used in pallets, dun vnage, crating, packing blocks,
drums, load boards, pallet collars and skids. There are exactly 2 treatment measures that been approved by IPPC,
Heat Treatment and Methyl Bromide Fumigation. In addition, the WPM that has been treated should display a specified mark
universally recognized to facilitate verification during inspection. This regulation is enforced on the
1st of January 2004 for the whole of Malaysia following steps taken by most of our trading partners in implementing ISPM #15
